“For The Love Of The 453” (2023)

A collective research project exploring London’s 453 bus route as both subject and site. Framed as research as design, the project used the journey itself as a method - gathering field interviews, spatial and material experiments, and the documentation of sensory and social observations

Through riding the 453, we engaged directly with public space, personal passion, and lived experience. The project became a way to actively build empathy for and with people and their interests; to understand the passions and the people we design for and with.

“Empathy is the ability to understand and identify with another person’s context, emotions, goals, and motivations.” - Whitney Quesenbery
